Nov 12 Thursday
We both needed to rest so we got a late start leaving Dazzo's Restaurant & RV Park in Wikieup, AZ. Especially Joey, but his cold does seem to be getting better.
Before we left we checked the iPhone app for GeoCaching & found that there is one only 1/2 mile from us in our planned direction. It took us about an hour to find it. It was nice being out in the fresh desert air. Beautiful views all around.
This was about our fifth found GeoCache. This is a new fun thing for us.
Anyway, this late departure meant we couldn't make it to the RV Camp in Las Vegas before dark...even though it's only about 160 miles from here. It gets dark now at 5pm-ish.
There was a lot of construction en route due to a future Hoover Dam bypass.
It was already dark as we came up highway 93 to Hoover Dam & all vehicles and RV's needed to be inspected....security. The look inside the trailer was a snap. Just an in-n-out thing, no big deal BUT then the guard wanted to know what was inside the zipped carrier on top of the car. Joey couldn't remember. I knew there was a collapsible ladder but was unable to remember what else. We hadn't opened it for over a month.
Joey needed to use a ladder of the guard to be able to get up high enough to unpadlock, unbongee, unstrap, unknot before he could unzip it. It took at least 1/2 hr. What a hassle.
The drive across the dam at night, with all the lights on and all around it was beautiful & the 15 mph speed limit made it easy for us to see as much as we wished.
We then drove about another 1/2 hr & made it as far as the Railroad Pass Casino & boon docked there. The next morning we searched for another geocache near where we parked but we were unable to find it. This was our first failure. Boo hooey.
We gave up when we were hungry & just walked into the casino for their special $1.50 breakfast! 2 eggs, 2 sausage or bacon, toast and hash browns. The coffee cost more than a single meal @ $1.75...HAH.
More from Vegas soon.
