Highland Living Village, Iona, Nova Scotia PART 1

Sep 8 Sat Only drove 76 miles today…..because:
We left the  Adventures East Campground @ Baddeck.
Destination  Halifax, 219 miles as shown in the first map
the green square is our camp &
the red one Halifax, NS.......BUT.......
..........  BUT as the sun came out & the weather looked beautiful so we decided to take a little side trip to Iona , NS     What prompted this side trip to the
"Highland Village Museum"   was an article in the Highlands Gaelic Living magazine.
It's one of those living museums where the people dress as in the times; in this case the early 1800's.
This was actually a special week-end at the museum and they were having extra demonstrations,  workshops & living exhibits exploring Gaelic culture.

The map below shows where we began in Baddeck and the red flag on the left is where we needed to board a small ferry to cross "Little Narrows".
It  was able to take our 36' length of SUV & trailer together.
I had my doubts that we would fit when I first saw it coming from the other side.

We were the only vehicle aboard this trip but there WAS room for maybe 3 or four more cars....MAYBE.
The red flag on the right is Iona & the Highland Village.

The early 1800's Scottish village covers 40 acres of beautiful rolling hills
that overlooked Bras d'Or Lakes

The weather stayed lovely while we were there for several hours.

There was lots of hilly walking with strange trees & lovely views:

We heard a loud generator engine sound coming from where we made one of our first stops; A building which housed an old,  electric, cotton carding machine.
They still use it today for not only the  Village Museum but for others in the Iona area on a regular basis as well.

The Next stop was at the Old Schoolhouse
where fiddle classes were being held.

Here's a little taste of what that was like:

To be continued .....
