Crossing the Canadian Border: Pretty half-timbering, eh?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drove 164 miles today.
A few days before our arrival I reserved online only 4
nights @ KOA Quebec City.
Even though they call it KOA Quebec City it's really in
Levis, QC about 12 freeway miles SW of the "city".
We arrived late in
the day for the first night.
Joey had time to take the bikes of the top of the
car; first time on the trip. First time on ANY trip!
We've had the bikes for almost two years now.
Talk about procrastination!
I was worried that I might not be able to live up to the old saying: "Easy, just like riding a bike. Once you learn you never forget."
We rode them around the large campground ogling
all the other rigs.
(Neither of us fell down....YAY)
When riding around we spotted another Fun Finder X. Our same brand by Cruiser RV,
not so common.
There were 2 Canadian couples at their picnic table outside so we stopped to chat.
They spoke English & later came over to our
rig for a short visit. Nice time.
Also, in our ride around the camp we saw many rigs with
various unique configurations of bike racks that might work for our rig.
Regular racks ones don't work for us which I won't go into the reason why.
I stopped a driver towing a trailer in the campground who had a bike rack configuration that would perhaps work on our set up.
He told us where to go down the road a bit & they would probably be able to help us.
We went to the suggested place but they didn't have what we were looking for but the heavily French-accented
manager who spoke some English could
not have been more helpful & friendly.
He went into his office, took at least 15 minutes out of his day's work to print out the name, address & map of where we should go to find what we were looking for. It was way on the NE side of Quebec City but decided to go anyway.
He gave us his card & wrote his cell number on the back saying if we needed ANYTHING or advice, whatever….just call!
We had heard from some friends that the French speaking people in Quebec were not friendly but we found just the opposite to be true & this was a perfect example.
We went to find the rack. It WAS another adventure with all
the DETOURS
(Detours are everywhere due to the short season available for repairs)
bottom line….the place didn't have what we needed.
…….our 2nd day in Quebec was rainy & windy so we really
just felt like hanging out in our little "shoe box" during the rain. It
WAS lovely to do so. The rain sounds on the roof of the trailer makes us feel gooooouuuud.
Besides at this point
we didn't have any idea what we wanted
to do anyway nor how much time we needed.
I still needed to do my map-thing & get into the AAA
book & check out things online.
With the loss of a touring day due to the rain I added
another night in this camp. That would make it a 5 night stay which leaves only 4 days for touring.
I'm glad on the third
day the sun came out so we finally
made it into Vieux Quebec City.
Quebec City was the main destination that originally prompted this trip until we expanded our plans to go even further to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island.
We didn't actually spend much time in Quebec City but
it was beautiful & very European-like as touted. (Also, FILLED with tourists & tourist shops)
The traffic jam in Vieux Quebec was SO bad BUT we actually loved the traffic THIS time because enabled us to drive
& stop & stop & stop & were able to take photos with the all stops on the small streets….perfect!
But...... we do what we do.
Tomorrow would give us one full day more but when we returned to camp we tried to add another night so as not to be rushed.
This extra night would
have been a Friday.
Forget it!
Weekends are so full here. They have over 200 sites but not
all are the 30 amp electric sites that we need. They did have a 15 amp one
available which would have worked for us as long as we didn’t use our A/C which
needs 30 amps.
The weather is now cool at night so we wouldn't have needed
to use A/C anyway… BUT…We decided to NOT take the 15 amp site. It would mean
packing up, hooking up & again
setting up at the new spot & decided to get on the road again one day
earlier than we might have liked.
Soooooo, on Thursday, the final full day we decided to not go back into the Vieux
City and opted to check out a
waterfall & some small towns in the area.
We never returned to old Quebec
but we did drive 144 miles around the small villages in the area.
The farmlands are absolutely beautiful, pristine. GREEN! mixed with the golden fields of already harvested hay fields.

The small villages on
the St Lawrence were darling.
Our favorite was St
Antoine du Lilly.
More on that in next blog...this one's already too long & I wish to get it posted.
