A few lighthouses thrown in too.
These next three photos almost created a panic.
In our fervor to find a lighthouse we saw in some tourist information we learned that this one was now "private"
We told the gal in the tourist information office that we were towing a trailer & asked if the lighthouse road would have a "turn around"spot.
She said "no problem" we could actually go down the road until we see the church & use its parking lot and walk a 100 yards or so to view the lighthouse.
When we were looking for the church we find ourselves looking AT the lighthouse property & knew we were in trouble. No church, no big parking lot. No turn around. YIKES....now what?
Luckily the narrow lighthouse road has other residences on it & many of them have boats. Which meant there would be at least some one's yard in which to make our U-Turn. We were watched by neighbors a few neighbors all along the road as THEY knew what we were in for.
There WAS a little wider spot as we came to the dead end street. It was just wide enough for our U-Turn with only backing up once to "make it" without going onto someone's yard.
We are so glad to have our little-shoe-box of a trailer. We've had to make quite a few U-Turns as trips progress.
I think this lighthouse/now residence below was worth the experience.
Lots of trees made it difficult to get a shot. |
That will have to be our next trip back east because we've already had lots more stopovers than we planned so far & we really need to get to eastern Canada before it gets too late.
Here's a photo of the overnight-only-campground we stayed at in the Thousand Islands area.
That's us on the right. |
