Alexander Graham Bell Museum, Baddeck, NS

Alexander Graham Bell Museum was in Baddeck not far from camp.
Sooooooo; No long drive today.
The home Bell built here was not open to the public. It was built as a vacation home. I wish we could have seen it.
This link      http://www.donparrish.com/BellEstate.html
is to a website of a man that had been given a private tour of the home by it's caretaker....Lucky guy & lucky for us that he made this website so we all would be able to see it.
This is a photo from donparrish.com of the estate. Isn't it beautiful?
It's name meant Beautiful Hill in Gaelic.
From the same link above of donparish.com I clicked on the Essays tab & it is a WONDERFUL account of Bell's life and his so many inventions that  most of us have never heard of.          http://www.donparrish.com/EssayBell.html

AND then there's the NEW YORK TIMES Obituary:  http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/bday/0303.html
It is REALLY a good read. Bell had a wonderful, interesting life & he was truly a genius!

In the museum we learned of the work he did with the deaf . His mother & wife were deaf.
Because the telephone invention he had money to be able to work on so many other inventions in aviation, hydrofoils, submarines, tetrahedral construction (used in high tech architecture)

After a couple of hours in the museum we went into the Baddeck town center to see what was there.
Baddeck is on Bras d'Or Lake ( Arm of Gold) and is listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Watershed Site. The interpretive center was closed when we first got there so we hung out near the marina for awhile..........

.......... & then at a restaurant waiting for it to open.

...........& then saw this marvelous fellow .....Isn't he JUST what one expects to see in a fishing village? We were in the car when we saw him  walking & we needed to do  some maneuvering in order to get these photos of  him....shooting out of a moving car in the rain....I feel VERY lucky to be able to put him in our memory file here!

Eventually the interpretive center opened & found it very informative. It had many video screens that we were able to control & learn about what a "watershed" was along with other informational videos about the history of the area. They had a few taxidermied  (I suppose that's not a word but you know what I mean, eh?)     ....taxidermied  local animals that were pretty to see.
The exhibits were only on the 1st floor. The beautiful rock building had recently been rebuilt/restored due to not only deterioration from age but from flooding.

Sep 7 Friday stayed in camp all day . It was raining so it was a perfect day for Joey to catch up on some well needed napping.
He's just the busiest person I've ever known & took a well needed time-out.
I used the camp shower to finally get my hair washed.
Joey cooked chop suey for dinner.
It was nice to just "hang" & be lazy for a change.
So far we're pretty lucky to be able to hang together in our 18' "Shoe Box" for hours at a time without driving each other crazy. (my working on the blog keeps me busy & out of Joey's hair )

I think I mentioned in another post that this camp was a Passport America, 50% off camp:
Adventures East Campground & Cottages.
We liked the location & was fairly central for our day trips.
The red pin is where I camp was.

The owners of the campground also owned & operated a restaurant just up the Trans Canadian Hwy #105 about 5 minutes away.
